Learn moreWhy Whitford
That means measuring twice and cutting once. It is an unglamorous way to run a security company and it is the reason financial institutions, school systems, municipal buildings and universities keep calling us back.
Every job is checked against the code that governs it — fire and life safety, ADA, and the manufacturer’s own specification. A door that locks but blocks an exit is not a solution. Neither is one that satisfies an inspector but frustrates the people using it forty times a day.
Since 1948
Len Whitford started the company in the aftermath of the Second World War, repairing power equipment out of a four-bay garage behind the family homestead on Connecticut Boulevard. His son Lee runs it now.
Lawnmower repair gave way to locksmithing, and locksmithing gave way to electronic security. Lee, who holds a bachelor’s degree in physics, started moving the company into electronic access in the 1980s. The first job was hardwired keypads for the Bank of New England.
The address never changed. Seventy-eight years on, the counter is still on Connecticut Boulevard and a person still answers the phone.
Securing Connecticut is more than a slogan. It describes a proud family history of professional service, industry expertise and neighborly commitment.
